Last week I had the only chance in a lifetime to go to Japan. I might be exaggerating but it’s absolutely true for this time of the year. This is the only opportunity I’ll ever get to actually witness the Sakura trees (aka cherry blossoms). I had to sacrifice one week of school. Do I regret it? I did before I left because it was a terrible time to leave with 3 weeks of school left and I still had a ton of stuff to do but I managed somehow (thanks to my amazing team members for keeping me up to date). Now I don’t regret it at all. It was an incredible experience. I knew nothing about Japan and this voyage has taught me so much about the culture, people and the country. I will definitely return to Japan again.

Today, I am dedicating this post to Harajuku. Why? I had the most fun there. Harajuku is arguably the heart of the city’s vibrant youth fashion scene, and it’s the best place to shop for the latest urban brands. Instead of exploring the famous shopping district Omotesando Hills, I spent a majority of my time on Takeshita Dori because it’s more affordable and it’s a lively street outside of Harajuku station. The narrow pedestrianized street of small fashion boutiques and crepe stands at every corner is teen heaven. I devoured a Berry Berry & Cream crepe in seconds and I definitely recommend trying it at least once! The shuffle through this super busy street is well worth the wander.

On the other end of Takeshita Dori, I made a spontaneous left turn and discovered a photo worthy entrance to the Togo Shrine. The Shinto shrine was lined up with white poles and beyond that was a stunning Japanese garden. It is everything you could want in your dream garden. If you have more than 3 hours to explore, visit the largest Shinto shrine in the city – Meiji Shrine. Also, if you’re hoping to see some real cosplay action, the best day to visit Harajuku is a Sunday. It’s exactly what you’ve heard about Harajuku’s fashion. Their cosplay game is real intense and you’re probably too underdressed.
